A loose concept album, it’s both an intense expose and a roughneck tribute to the hip-hop lifestyle that broke new ground by merging the grimy lyrical sensibility and beats of East Coast rap with the funk-influenced subsonic bass grooves of the West Coast producers of the time. The track “Jeep Ass Niguh” was a major hit and a quintessential cruising song of the summer of 1993. It would later appear reworked as “Born to Roll” on some versions of the release (and later featured on the follow up, Sittin' On Chrome), garnering the group a top 25 single on the Hot 100. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, this reissue features vinyl cut under the supervision of Dave Cooley (J Dilla, Madlib) at Elysian Masters.

The second album from Masta Ace Incorporated, Sittin’ on Chrome spawned three top 100 hit singles, “Born to Roll,” which went top 25 the previous year and is included here, and both “The I.N.C. Ride,” and “Sittin’ on Chrome.” Sonically, the album represents some of the best production elements of mid-90’s East Coast Hip-Hop, including darker, heavier passages with angular hooks and combines those with laidback, funky synth lines and a conceit about a “wild cousin from the West” that sets the listener up for a seamless blend of two competing sensibilities – a rare feat at the height of the mid-90’s Gangsta Rap popularity. This is The I.N.C.’s best-selling record and it’s easy to see why – there’s not a weak track in the bunch. Chrome is an essential album from the Golden Age of Hip-Hop. Double LP gatefold package features audio remastered by Dave Cooley (J Dilla, Madlib) at Elysian Masters.
